In the frozen pitch black tunnels deep underground a toxic soup of lead, mercury, PCB’s, zinc and cadmium contaminates the flooded corridors and missile silos. A rusty mixture of lead paint flakes in tight crawl spaces, cavernous flooded openings hide in the shadows. The still, echoing tunnels hold unknown levels of Radon. In the dark, with no lights you can’t see your hand 1 inch from your face.
Yet under 2 1/2 feet of nuclear blast resistant, reinforced concrete in a Titan 1 missile complex, this is the photographers ultimate environment to control every aspect of the shoot in an atmosphere that oozes oppression.
