Endless streams of samples came across these benches in the Sugar Mill laboratory, testing sugar content in molasses, impurities in waste water and sugar content of lime cake. Modern production of sugar refined from beets no longer uses such harsh chemicals but the lime piles from this 19th century factory are evident everywhere.
